David crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in Goat Canyon in Imperial Beach Oct. 30 and told U.S. Border Patrol agents he was an American citizen born in Chicago.

After a copy of his birth certificate was located Kathy learned her son was still alive Nov. 1 when a federal agent called Kathy at her home in Wisconsin.

Next week the two will fly back to Wisconsin and sometime next month a family reunion will be held where David can meet his siblings, stepfather and a large extended family.
