The Legend of the Purple Haired Girl and the Man in the Motorized Chair

This poem was inspired by a friend of mine in SC. A mixture of fact and fiction

He saw her at the grocery store

A day before Halloween

Streaks of Purple through her hair

A sight he’d never seen

He was a man from the 60’s in a motorized Wheel chair

Who was an alcoholic without a dream or prayer

He found his way back home

from railroad tracks and 90Proof

and dark years all alone

She was a girl from the 80’s

In a crystal chandeleire

Flying high and  living low

Without a dime to share

She looked away and laughed

At the man she didn’t know

Who drove that chair around the store

Never slow

They never really talked

They were not in the same league

And yet when he told his tales

You could tell he was intrigued

And she talked repeatedly

Of an old man in a motor chair

Running down the customers

And staring at her hair

They both left this world

to another far away

But every Halloween they’re

In the candy  aisle

Wheel chair and purple hair

A peace sign and a smile
