Who's The Man?

Long ago, but not so far away, in the land of surrender lived a gentle wise man. A lost and confused young woman stumbled through his gate and onto his property. Broken-hearted she was searching for work and a new life. In the beautiful country with towering green trees and happy birds, the wise man showed her his home
She noticed people working. Unique, colorful people of all ages were busy working with a smile. The young woman marveled at the contagious loving vibration that blessed her. The wise man introduced her to everyone.           She absorbed the peace and savored the love that radiated through this gracious man’s house. But she wondered, “How is there enough work? How does everyone get along? And why do they love working for this man?” Many questions floated through her mercurial mind as she walked with the wise man.
“This is your place,” he smiled as he showed her a quaint room with an arch shaped window. She loved her room. She beamed, “Thank you, it’s perfect.” He replied, “Thank you; we need devoted people for our work.” He continued, “People come and people go. They come for happiness and a new life, but often they leave.”
“My child,” he smiled, “Straight is the difficult way and narrow is my gate. There are few who find it and few that stay.” She asked, “Do they ever come back?” He answered, “Absolutely, people return when they realize they do have a heart for this work. Many get to know and love me so they stay forever.” Then he touched her shoulder and asked, “Will you be staying?”
. . . . . His question took her by surprise and pierced her heart. With a deep breath she answered, “I hope so.”  “Good,” his wise eyes lit up. “Hope is good.”
The young woman loved spending time with him and she enjoyed the lessons the wise man taught. She learned so much at the land of surrender. But she is human. She left this haven and returned numerous times throughout her life.
Twenty years later once again she passed through his gate onto his magnificent property. The welcoming trees and birds greeted her. The old friends she made still lived there and were still smiling. They embraced her. They were happy to see her again.
Tears filled her old eyes and once more she knocked on his door. Tears rolled down her cheeks as he opened the door. He smiled and she smiled. He hugged her. “It’s good to see you. I had faith in you. I knew you’d come home,” he said.
“I’m sorry I left you,” she cried. He consoled her, “You’re forgiven. You mustn’t be so hard on yourself. My love is unconditional.”
As they walked, he stopped and gently put his hand on her shoulder and asked, “Will you be staying?” With confidence and the unleashed spirit of a brave heart she answered, “Yes!”
