*Thank You Thursday*

What do you do with a gift someone gives you that you do not want? When someone gives you an atrocious gift, you don't have to accept it. . . Think of the word "gift" as what someone shares and what they literally give you.
Look at your day. Someone always gives you something. You give and you receive. What do you give? What do you receive?
You might project a smiling, happy, loving soul or maybe you're frowning, walking wounded, projecting your pain.
Yesterday a sweet Spanish teacher I adore, Mrs. B, shared her wise aunt's (Gloria Garces) advice. Growing up her aunt told her, "When someone gives you a gift, you don't have to accept it."
According to Mrs. B's aunt, "You simply decline. You tell yourself, "No thank you. That's your gift. You keep it." I love this approach. Her aunt is a genius.
We treat each other in various ways. We have a grouchy face or a smiling face. We use nice words or rude words. We wish good for people or we don't care. However we treat people is our gift.
Accept good gifts with "Thank You." Reject the useless gifts with, "No thank you."
Mrs. B's aunt said, "If someone says hurtful things to you, don't accept that gift. That's their gift. Let them keep it."
What a great idea. If someone serves you a plate of maggots obviously you say, "No thank you. You keep it." (It's their maggots, unless you accept them.)
Instead focus on the good gifts. Focus on the good surprises you love to receive and be grateful. Accept and keep the gifts that money can't buy. Give a child a gift. Cherish quality time spent with a child. Walk or talk, sing and laugh with a child. A child's laughter keeps us alive.
Give gifts from your heart. Follow through if you intend to give someone flowers. If you want to send a card via snail mail, do it. If you wait you're late. Don't hesitate to give a smile. Give one and get one. :-)
Remember people can not give what they do not have. So you keep on giving the gifts you want to give. God bless you.
