San Diego Rescue Mission to Hold 13th Annual Interfaith Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, November 3, 2012

A procession to the vigil will depart from the San Diego Rescue Mission

at 3:15 pm and walk approximately a mile stopping for prayers at various

churches and ministry sites in the procession to the County Building. Each

person in the procession will carry a pair of shoes which represents the 63 homeless

individuals who died in the last year. The candlelight vigil program at the

County Building begins at 4:00 pm. The interfaith event is designed to create

awareness for the 10,000 men, women and children living each day homeless in

San Diego that should not have to die on the streets.

Founded in 1955, San Diego Rescue Mission is a faith-based organization

that offers safe-haven as well as restorative care and rehabilitation services

to the homeless, addicted, abused, and poor in our community.  San Diego Rescue Mission offers a wide range

of onsite programs and services through its Nueva Vida Haven Emergency Shelter,

Partners for Hunger Relief, Men’s Center, Women and Children’s Center,

Transitional Housing and Recuperative Care Center. San Diego Rescue Mission

also owns and operates several thrift stores in the San Diego area. It is the

only major homeless shelter in San Diego that does not receive government

funding for its programs. The organization exists entirely on donations. For
