Imperial Beach veterans will meet on the pier and hold a ceremony to remember Dec. 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor attacks in which more than 2,000 lives were lost.

The event chair is Charles van Valkenburgh, whose grandfather Captain Franklin van Valkenburgh was the commanding officer of the USS Arizona.

Bill Landry from Fleet Reserve Association Branch 289 will be the event's co-chair.

FRA Branch 289, VFW Post 5477, American Legion Post 820 and the City of Imperial Beach also helped coordinate the memorial.

All are welcome.

Wounderful Idea, We should never forget that day, We owe at least that to those that were killed at Pearl on that awful day. As a young Marine at Marine Barracks there at Pearl Harbor I was often responsiable for raising and lopwering the flag on the old woodern quarterdeck that was there before the present monument was built. We took a launch from Charlie Landing on Hospital Point over to the flag landing, There were 4 of us 3 Marines and a Marine bugler And we preformed the cermony at 0800 and sunset, I have been back several times and the New Monument is awe inspireing. We as a nation must remember them !
