Imperial Beach Hottest City in Nation Friday

The most southwest city in the continental United States had the highest temperature in the nation Friday.

Offshore Santa Ana winds made Imperial Beach the hottest city in America Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Around 1 p.m., with humidity levels down to a bone dry 8 percent, the temperature reached 92 degrees.

In nearby Coronado, Chula Vista and San Diego, temperatures reached the mid- to upper 80s.

A red flag warning signaling dangerous fire risk has been issued through Saturday afternoon for valleys and mountains in eastern parts of the county due to strong, dry winds and warm temperatures.

IB's weather forecast calls for temperatures in the upper 70s and possible wind gusts of up to 20 mph Saturday, with lower temperatures Sunday.

The lowest temperature measured in the United States Friday was -7 in Shirley Basin, WY, the NWS said.
