Hurricane Irene Raises Gas Prices, Imperial Beach Prices Remain Below County Average

Prices have risen 10 times in the past 11 days.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday the cheapest gallon of self-serve gasoline in or near Imperial Beach and west of Interstate 5 could be found at the Arco station on Palm Avenue between Florida and 12th Streets for $3.69.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular in San Diego County rose today for the 10th time in 11 days, increasing 1.3 cents to $3.83.

That's 10 cents higher than a week ago, 1.1 cents more than a month ago and 76 cents above what it was at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

Analysts attribute the recent sharp daily increases to fears of
shortages stemming from the closures of East Coast refineries because of Hurricane Irene.

  • $3.75/$3.83 at the San Diego Gas and Food at the corner of Coronado Avenue and Hollister Street
  • $3.75/$3.85 at the Shell gas station at the corner of Coronado Avenue and Hollister Street
  • $3.79 at the 7-Eleven at the corner of 13th Street and Imperial Beach Boulevard
  • $3.79 at the 7-Eleven at the corner of 13th Street and Palm Avenue
  • $3.79/$3.89 at the Valero station at the corner of 13th Street and Imperial Beach Boulevard
  • $3.79 at the 76 station at the corner of Ingrid Avenue and Hollister Street
  • $3.85 at the 76 station at the corner of 9th Street and Palm Avenue
  • $3.86/$3.96 at Beach Side Station at the corner of 7th Street and Palm Avenue

The most expensive gas in or near Imperial Beach and west of Interstate 5 could be found at the 7-Eleven/Shell at the corner of Saturn Boulevard and Palm Avenue for $3.99 a gallon.
