High Surf, Possible Coastal Flooding Expected Through Tuesday

Forecasters say a low-pressure trough is the cause, and its impact will be felt on the coast through the early morning Tuesday. Rip currents are expected Monday too.

A trough of low pressure is expected to bring gusty winds to the mountains and deserts of San Diego County later Monday as well as 3- foot to 6-foot surf and strong rip currents along the coast.

According to the National Weather Service, the trough will move inland through Tuesday.

A coastal flood advisory is scheduled to be in effect from 5 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday. The Weather Service forecast 3- to 4-foot south swells will build throughout the advisory period.

A wind advisory is scheduled for the mountains and deserts through 4 a.m. Tuesday. During the advisory period, there will be 20 to 30 mile per hour sustained winds and gusts up to 50 mph.

"The winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with high profile vehicles," according to a Weather Service advisory. "Watch for broken tree limbs and downed power lines."
