Big Waves and Possible Coastal Flooding Through Saturday

High surf advisory and coastal flood alert issued until 4:00 pm on Saturday.

High temperature records were set in San Diego County
today, and as temperatures cool down on Friday, the coast will see high surf
into the weekend, forecasters said.
The thermometer hit 83 at Lindbergh Field, breaking the old record of 80
set in 1969. Other records were set at Alpine, where the maximum was 84
degrees, topping the old record of 81 for today's date, also set in 1969.
Chula Vista hit 81, topping the 77 set in 2003. El Cajon's 88 broke the
86 record set in 2006, and Escondido's 85 topped the 84 degree record set in
1969.
The summery mercury readings brought larger-than-normal crowds to local
beaches, though nippy winter sea temperatures -- hovering at about 58 degrees --kept most people out of the water, San Diego lifeguard Sgt. Bob Albers said.
High temperatures will be 10-12 degrees cooler Friday, as a marine
breeze predominates and brings cooler, moist air into the inland valleys of
East and North County, according to the National Weather Service.
The size and intensity of wave sets are expected build late this
evening, reaching 6 to 10 feet, with some building up to 12 feet through
Saturday afternoon, the NWS said.
A high-surf advisory and coastal-flooding alert are scheduled to be in
effect from 10 this evening until 4 p.m. Saturday.
Inexperienced surfers and swimmers should stay out of the water,'' the
NWS advised in a statement. Those who wish to enter the water should only
do so when lifeguards are present.''
