Sleep Train’s motto is “your ticket to a better night’s sleep.” But the mattress retailer hopes patrons won’t doze off at a 20,000-seat amphitheater bearing its name in Chula Vista.
A five-year naming rights deal was announced Wednesday with concert promoter Live Nation for the 14-year-old outdoor venue that’s played host to Carlos Santana, Elton John and Toby Keith as well as legendary bands Kiss, the Eagles, the Beach Boys and Motley Crue.
The now-former Cricket Wireless Amphitheater will be known as the Sleep Train Amphitheater, the two companies announced.
Sleep Train sponsors three other concert venues in California—Sleep Train Amphitheatre in the Sacramento area town of Wheatland and Sleep Train Pavilion and Shoreline Amphitheatre in the San Francisco Bay Area.
“We are proud to expand our partnership with Live Nation to become the title sponsor of this venue,” according to Dale Carlsen, Sleep Train founder
and CEO. “It allows us to deepen our connection with the San Diego area community and extend the reach of our award-winning Foster Kids program with the addition of in-venue events.”
According to the announcement, Sleep Train will hold two donation events at the 15-year-old amphitheater to collect pajamas, shoes, clothing, school supplies and gifts for foster youth.
The venue was originally known as the Coors Amphitheater until Cricket Wireless purchased the naming rights.
Sleep Train recently placed its name on the sports arena in Sacramento, where the NBA Kings play.
