Walmart is coming to the Southland Plaza Shopping Center off Palm Avenue.

The new store will be announced with the megastore's officials in a ceremony Friday along with San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders.

Walmart officials and the mayor will be joined by business leaders from the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Casa Familiar, South County Economic Development Council and the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation.

The store is expected to open in the fall in what used to be a Mervyns.

In South San Diego, there are also Walmart stores at 1150 Broadway in Chula Vista and near Palm Avenue and Interstate 805 in San Diego.

Wow.. I grew up in IB, and have never heard such racist comments. Mr. Johnson you are a disgrace to society. Why did you wait until they opened Walmart to come out of your closet. You are free to call ICE at any given time, and report the poor undocumented men, that are only seeking to "work." They are human beings and not "pigeons," as you are calling them. Having an SDPD station would be great for the hard working decent people who live nearby. Futhermore, you have no right to offend and generalize about people with Mexican decent. FYI, not everyone that speaks spanish is Mexican. So now, blinded by their ignorance people are blaming traffic problems, landscape, i.e., on the Mexican community. Please, and I hope you are NOT one of those white men, that loves to vacation in Mexico.

Hi Vanessa! Actually I was using the term "ghetto" more as a colloquialism. I appreciate your advice about getting involved with the community, I am involved with my community. I didn't call the people that shop there ghetto as you suggested, but I see by your statement as such, you understand what a colloquialism is so there's no need for me to question your use of the word, or explain the government or community's responsibility to respond. Thank you for suggesting I "should" move to Eastlake, but I'll pass. Enjoy your new Wal Mart!

@ Blondie, since when should I, or anyone else for that matter, care about your "quick trip to Vons" and the parking hassle you may have to endure? I don't give a rat's ass about how YOU may be inconvenienced! Oh I forgot, the whole world revolves around your inconsequential grocery run.
