'Fun Summer Night' at Taste of IB

Attendees walked Seacoast Drive and Old Palm Avenue to sample the sort of services and treats local businesses have to offer.

The Taste of IB brought dozens of people to Seacoast Drive and the city's waterfront Saturday afternoon.

provided live music at Pier Plaza.

In votes cast by attendees,  won the award for Best Customer Service,  won Best Giveaway and  won Best Presentation.

D'ames Day Spa gave away more than $3,500 in massages, facials and other services at the event, said owner Christine LaPausky

She said she felt this was the best Taste of IB since the event began in 2001. With so many past summer get togethers canceled or gone, the community and its businesses needed Taste of IB and the Saturday.

"We really needed some fun down here," she said. "We've had construction noise and dirt for so long, along with no Sandcastle [Competition], no Sandcastle ball, no or BBQ. We were overdue on bringing the community out for a fun summer night."

Surf and Turf Car Show organizers told IB Patch the permit for their annual event that spans Seacoast Drive was denied this year due to street improvements.

I thought it was a great night, thank you to all the businesses who took part and boo to the ones who did not! One thing for sure Seacoast needs to be more pedestrian friendly, need to clean up the streets have better lighting and more nice looking trash cans. IB has so much potential!!!! Let's get it done!!!!

It was a great night and an excellent idea to pair dining with dancing. I've never seen so many people out in an evening at the pier having such a great time. I do think that the event would work better if the restaurants had booths in Pier Plaza as we found that we had to scramble to get between the few participating restaurants before 7:00 pm. When Pollo Loco ran out of food (twice) it threw us off schedule for our walk to other restaurants. It would also be nice to know, days in advance how many restaurants, and how much money. All in all, we had a great time and look forward to more events like this one!

It's very difficult for handicapped folks to use their equipment on the grass. I was told to ask a coordinator to get the foods and samples. What kind of embarrassment is that?.......... You must have your coupons so why can't the face of the booths or tents be where the sidewalk is so we can go there on our own?........ Even two sides could be open, one on the grass and the other the sidewalk........ The West Coast Cafe was too far. By the time we got their in the heat and back the Sand Castle inn and Polo Loco were out of items. Also, the raffle is sold under he arches where I waited from 6:45 to 7:15 for the drawing but didn't know it would be announced on the stage and it could not be heard on the north side of the booth. I bought extra tickets to no avail. Yes, these look like complaints, but they are suggestions for next time. It was my first time and the idea is excellent. The folks who put it on did a fantastic job and I hope to see it back next year too. Don't flame me.
