San Diego County Gasoline Price Falls For 11th Consecutive Day

The price fell to $4.19 a gallon Tuesday, six cents less than a week ago but $1 more than this time last year.

The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the city and county of San Diego fell to $4.19 a gallon Tuesday.

For San Diego County that's down 6 cents from a week , approximately the price for gasoline a month ago and about $1than this time a year ago. The average price rose for eight consecutive days before the streak of decreases began.

"We've had a very big drop off in oil prices and in California more so than almost any other state the wholesale prices have come way down," said Marie Montgomery with the Automotive Club of Southern California.

The price of a barrel of benchmark crude continued its fall Monday from its 30-month high of nearly $115 early in the month to $99.46, dropping 19 cents in late-morning trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Crude oil costs account for two-thirds to three-quarters of the price of a gallon of gasoline, according to Tupper Hull of the Western States Petroleum Association, a trade association representing oil companies in six western states.
