Costs grew too high, and support from volunteers and sponsors declined, and like everyone else the economy has taken its toll.
There is little question the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition brought hundreds of thousands of people and noteriety to IB.
Some liked the crowds or attention to IB, while some local residents came to rue the inconvenience of sandcastle weekend.
