Pier South Opening Delayed Until Early Fall
The hotel was originally scheduled to open last August.
Opening of the four-story, 78-room Pier South hotel in Imperial Beach has been delayed until late September or October, according to Kathryn Houston, director of sales for Pacifica Hotels.
The 800 Seacoast Dr. hotel will begin to hire around 50 employees and take reservations approximately six weeks before an opening date is identified, Houston said. Model room tours will be available in the coming weeks, she said.
Delay is likely the result of a need to compromise design visions between Pacifica and Marriott, Houston said. Once compromise between the two visions was achieved, a necessary delay to be part of Marriott's prestigious Autograph Collection, a few months were needed to fill orders, Allison Rolfe with Pacifica told IB Patch in May.
Sea 180, a restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel, will likely open at the same time, said restaurant project manager Ken Irvine.
"It's quite a process when you have three different teams in there, the hotel owners, operators and restaurant crew, and they all have to kind of work together," Irvine said.
"It's going to really look sharp but unfortunately we missed the summer," he said.
