Marisa's Mexican Restaurant Weighs Option to Sell Business

They aren't going out of business anytime soon, the restaurant's owner said, but he would consider selling to a serious buyer.

On Palm Avenue three blocks from the beach, is a big festive restaurant with a beautiful bar, patio and other amenities, but after four years in business, the restaurant was put up for sale a little over a month ago.

The business but not the underlying property is for sale, said owner Rene Contreras of San Diego who has been in the restaurant business for almost 20 years.

He said the business had an average summer in sales and that they aren't going out of business, but if a serious buyer comes along he could consider selling the restaurant, which has been open for four years.

"There's no for sale sign outside or anything," he said. "It'll be here unless someone buys it."

Asking price is $199,000, according to Paramount Restaurant Brokers.

According to an ad on the broker's website sellingrestaurants.com, Marisas is approximately 3,600 square feet with a 500 square foot patio. There are more than a dozen parking spaces.

"Summer months have brought gross sales of approximately $50,000 with absolutely no money spent on advertising. A good marketing and business plan would easily drive sales up," the ad says.

"The owners here have over spent on the build out/remodel and are now in a position where they need to sell their dream location. Let their loss be the your gain as you capitalize on this beach area location."

Rob Tade, the realtor overseeing the potential sale, could not be reached for comment.
