Gas Prices Rise to Average $3.92 in San Diego County

The price of gas rose 32 times in the last 34 days and is now an average $3.92 Monday.

Average gasoline prices in San Diego County rose to $3.92 per gallon of self-serve unleaded Monday, with an increase of about five cents since Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

That is 14.9 cents higher than a week ago, 52.7 cents more than it was one month ago and 85.5 cents greater than it was one year ago.

Prices have gone up 32 of the past 34 days.

The statewide average Monday is $3.89, the highest in the nation, with Hawaii 1.5 cents behind in second place. The nationwide average is $3.50.

Analysts attribute the rise in cost to increasing prices for imported crude oil stemming from unrest in the Middle East, Libya and North Africa.

Crude oil costs account for two-thirds to three-quarters of the price of a gallon of gasoline, according to Tupper Hull of the Western States Petroleum Association, a trade association representing oil companies in six western states.
