Burger King to Return to Imperial Beach

A Los Angeles-based company has signed a 20-year lease and plans to renovate the current building, the property owner said.

There was much speculation by Imperial Beachians about what would replace a Burger King that closed its doors with no notice in September 2011.

At one time there was a widespread rumor that In-N-Out Burger would take over the 1180 Palm Ave. property, a rumor the company denied.

On Monday property owner Patricia Stadel said her company Stadel Management Services has signed a 20-year lease with Los Angeles-based California Food Management, LLC to bring a Burger King back to Imperial Beach.

"Well, California Food and Management leased it and they're putting another Burger King in there. We had a lot of people look at it but this is the deal that came together," she said. "So these folks are going to fix it up and have it operating hopefully by July but we don't know."

Wayne Burke, California Food Management Director of Operations said his company plans to open a Burger King in IB but when the store opens depends on permits and how long renovations take.

The previous Burger King closed, Stadel said, when the previous franchisee refused to renovate. After being purchased by 3G Capital in 2010, Burger King Corporation required franchise owners to remodel their stores, according to Bloomberg News.
