Big Discounts Noted at Albertsons on Coronado Avenue Amid Liquidation

Final closure for store serving Imperial Beach is reported as June 27, according to paper.

Major discounts were seen at Albertsons on Coronado Avenue as the store continued its liquidation, according to U-T San Diego.

“The discounts are on packaged and fresh goods, some of which will eventually go down to 90 percent off,” the paper reported.

The grocery store is in San Diego but serves Imperial Beach.

The Albertsons opened in 1991, and will reportedly close June 27.

“We have a responsibility to assure the success of all of our stores, and that was one store that was just not meeting its goals, especially in a competitive and difficult economic environment,” Lilia Rodriguez, Albertson's communication manager,

Employees were notified April 27, she told Patch.

Albertsons Southern California Division announced in May that it would lay off between 2,200 and 2,500 workers in California and Nevada because sales are down and it’s losing customers to competitors.

A typical Albertsons employs between 75 and 100 people. Not all the workers at the store will lose their jobs; many will move to other stores.
