Judge Grants City of IB Restraining Order to Stop Grand Jury

A law firm representing the City of Imperial Beach has asked for and was granted a temporary restraining order to stop the San Diego County Grand Jury from releasing information about the city's legal bills, court documents state.

There are no known prior incidents when a Grand Jury investigation was stopped with the use of a restraining order, 10News reported.

The nature of the Grand Jury's investigation is not known since Grand Jury findings are not shared until they are published.

Judge William Dato is expected to revisit the matter in the Central Courthouse in downtown San Diego Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The restraining order is scheduled to expire Thursday at 5 p.m.

A "temporary employee" hired to assist with the dissolution of redevelopment agencies gave the Grand Jury legal fee invoices which included information about work with the law firm that represents the city, McDougal, Love, Eckis, Boehmer & Foley.

A restraining order was requested April 16 by the law firm and approved May 3, based on the claim that release of the forms was tantamount to a breach in attorney-client privilege, 10News said.

The City of Imperial Beach is scheduled to renew its contract with McDougal, Love, Eckis, Boehmer & Foley at its City Council meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m.
