9th and Palm Gets State Approval

A new shopping center project known as the 9th and Palm got a go-ahead to begin construction from the California Department of Finance, Mayor Jim Janney told a crowd of about 100 people gathered for his State of the City address Wednesday at Pier South Resort.

Formally named the Breakwater Project, city of Imperial Beach officials and Assemblywoman Toni Atkins met with finance officials last week, Janney said.

Last July the state rejected the planned shopping center project. The former Miracle Shopping Center was demolished in 2011.

Sudberry Development, the company chosen to build the shopping center, could not be reached for comment about possible tenants.
