What Are Your Favorite Children’s Books?

There are a lot of choices out there for what to read kids. What were some of your favorite books as a child or what do you read to your children today?

We’re in the swing of summer, and that means more time to spend with your kids!

Hopefully, we’re all spending some of that time with our little ones reading good literature. This week, I wanted to get some feedback on your favorite books to read with children in the hopes of finding some new ones myself.

My girls are teenagers now, but my former students are old enough that they are having children and I am enjoying providing them with starts on their home libraries with books I glean from garage sales, book giveaways and second hand stores.

Two of my favorites are “Stellaluna” and “Verdi,” both written and beautifully illustrated by Janell Cannon. Both books are very subtle stories that educate about differences being the spice of life. Stellaluna is a bat who is raised by birds, and Verdi is a young snake who doesn’t want to become old. They are great read alouds for kids as young as 18 months, and eventually, kids will love to read them on their own.
