Smash Some Pumpkins at 5 Local Music Shows Halloween Weekend

Costume contests and rock, ska and hiphop shows in Imperial Beach Friday and Saturday.

Halloween is usually known for the tricks, the treats and the ghoulishly good times. But in Imperial Beach this year, music is part of the holiday.

This Friday, a at the Sports Park and Recreation Center will feature four local heavy metal bands.

, a San Diego-based metal band that began in 2006, will be featured in the show with three other bands.

The other three bands at the Halloween show will be Calamitous Intent, Beheading the King, a newly-formed band that’s only about a year and a half old and whose EP came out this July, and Depravity, a South Bay metal band.

Want to check out the Halloween Metal Show? Come to the Sports Park and Recreation Center Friday from 6-11 p.m. Dress up in your costume and you might win an iPod! Admission is just $3 to see all four bands. All ages are welcome.

Also on Friday night at 9 p.m., the ska-reggae IB band will jam at , and will host the band Safety Orange. No cover for either event. Must be 21 or older.

On Saturday at 9 p.m., for the release of their album "We Are Stars."

SUBSURFER hails from IB and want to celebrate the release of their first album in their hometown. Local band Fuzz Huzzi will also be there, fresh off and the release of their album "Revival" in September.

Guests will get a show from both bands and fans can pick up stickers, CDs at $10 a pop and t-shirts.
