SCRP Donates to Fund 'Arsenic and Old Lace' Play at Mar Vista; Opening Day Saturday

The South County Renaissance Project donates $500 to the Mar Vista High School drama program and its production of 'Arsenic and Old Lace.'

The South County Renaissance Project (SCRP), which hosts the IB Film Festival each year, donated $500 to the Mar Vista High School Mariner Theatre Company earlier this month to assist in funding the thespian troupe's production of Arsenic and Old Lace starting May 14.

Written by playwright Joseph Kesselring and directed by drama teacher Marisela de la Parra, the comedic play explores the life and adventures of two elderly women and their family in Brooklyn at the start of World War II.

Tickets to the play are $5 and $15 for a May 20 dinner show. Call 619-628-5779 to make a reservation.

 The SCRP recently premiered its third film project, IB Creative, which includes interviews with members of the Imperial Beach art community. 

The film is co-directed by SCRP CEO Steve Futterman and former Mar Vista High School actor Steve Anthenill.

IB Creative will be broadcast periodically on the San Diego County Television Network, or public access, through May. CTN can be found on COX Channel 19 in North County and Cox Channel 24 in South County, as well as Time Warner Channel 24 or digital Channel 124.

Futterman appeared on Rick Mizuno's Indies in Motion LA Talk Radio show May 9 at 1 p.m., and last month the film was featured in the Plaza Mexico Film Fair in Lynwood, CA.
