Fun with Coastal Awareness Tour 2011 Wednesday, from IB to Oregon

Coastal Awareness Tour 2011 starts in Imperial Beach on Wednesday and finishes three months and 26 cities later in Florence, OR.

Come down to the beach (look for the rainbow flag) for face painting, ocean information, to learn things you may not think about your trash, ways to make sustainability fun and personalized, Hula Hoops, yoga, music, meditation, movement, and Aloha.

Beach cleanups will occur before, during and after the event.

The tour up the coast is being organized by a group of volunteers and Los Angeles-based yoga teacher Elizabeth Rakestraw to encourage people to "honor our sea with love and presence."

The idea behind the tour is to renew coastal cities' passion for their shoreline. Ideally, Rakestraw would like to inspire people to embrace the things they can do individually to make a difference in their own environment.

"We want to really excite people, spark their interest in their community and go out and find out what they're passionate about," she said.

"We want to help the beach shine, to clean it up a little bit more, and learn how I can help them, how we can help each other and how we can help the ocean," Rakestraw said.
