Banksy in Imperial Beach? World Famous Graffiti Artist Sighting

The graffiti artist known as Banksy, whose film is up for an Oscar Sunday, is rumored to be in San Diego.

Banksy, the world famous fabled graffiti artist, is rumored to be in San Diego and Imperial Beach.

Check out this picture of his iconic rat doing surveillance next to a video surveillance camera sign near 9th and Emory Streets.

The one-name artist who famously guards his identity was director of Exit Through the Gift Shop, which is up for best documentary at the Oscars Sunday.

His stencil based work has been found from the penguin enclosure at the London Zoo to the levee wall in New Orleans to the barrier wall between Israel and Palestine.

Yahoo! News reported earlier this week that Banksy has been banned from attending the Oscars in disguise.

Banksy impersonator. That's not his quality work.
Chris Morrow February 25, 2011 at 08:55 PM
I don't think so. Its real!
Brant Walker February 25, 2011 at 09:15 PM
Anybody could have done this. Just because it's a rat, doesn't make it a Banksy. Think about it.
Chris Morrow February 25, 2011 at 09:16 PM
I've seen this stencil before. Its his.
Brant Walker February 25, 2011 at 10:11 PM
I doubt it. Anybody could make this stencil. I could make one in less than 10 minutes and produce the same thing. See: http://bit.ly/ejqYHT For all we know, you did it just so you could write this blog post.

No, he apparently "hit Oceanside," well, according to TMZ. http://www.tmz.com/2011/02/25/banksy-academy-award-strikes-again-rat-taco-shop-southern-california-oscar/

Looks a little sloppy for Banksy, I vote impersonator. Can't wait to see his disguise at the Oscars. His documentary rocks! It should win. Really good music in it too.

Banksy work is being reported around southern California. I wonder if he has something grand planned before OR DURING the Oscars.
Deanne Goodman (Editor) February 25, 2011 at 10:38 PM
He's a genius, something during the Oscars would be so interesting! What will his disguise be?

Deanne Goodman (Editor) February 26, 2011 at 03:52 PM
Wow, I wonder what Banksy thinks about that?
Chris Morrow February 26, 2011 at 04:40 PM
The entire graffiti movement is also an encouragement to spread the word. The rat could be the next OBEYgiant. :)
Brant Walker February 26, 2011 at 05:03 PM
I'm pretty sure that you did this rat stencil so you could "try" to make it look like you uncovered this story. But the truth is, Banksy didn't come to San Diego at all, and you should admit you made this whole thing up.
Susan Bainbridge February 26, 2011 at 08:30 PM
Maybe Banksy is in S CA for the Oscars. Banksy, if you're reading this, come out to Ramona and paint my house!
Kenneth Rauen February 27, 2011 at 07:23 PM
Just google Banksy and compare the quality or lack thereof
Chris February 28, 2011 at 01:27 AM
neither is on his site yet...that'll be the confirmation
Chris Morrow February 28, 2011 at 03:45 PM
which website of his? Bummed Exit Through The Gift Shop didn't get best Doc at the Oscars.
Brant Walker March 02, 2011 at 08:20 PM
"which website of his?" Ummm.... his official site? http://www.banksy.co.uk/, which neither of these pieces are on. For someone who is so sure these pieces are his, it's kind strange you don't know about his site. Why don't you just admit you made the whole thing up?
Brant Walker March 03, 2011 at 02:27 AM
Well what do you know... http://www.kpbs.org/news/2011/mar/02/oceanside-mural-not-banksy/
