YMCA E-Waste Collection Saturday Benefits Local Youth

Turn in old electronics and help fund Border View Family YMCA youth programs.

With electronic gadgets being a top seller for holiday gifts, the Border View Family YMCA is joining with Recycle San Diego to host an e-waste deposit to raise funds and equipment for some of its teen programs such as Youth and Government, Generation Next and Model United Nations. All proceeds go directly to fund these programs.

Saturday Jan. 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Border View Family YMCA will be open to receive unwanted and unused household and personal electronics. Teen Coordinator Ricky Harris said this is a good event to help local youth by donating your olds electronics.

"Working with Recycle San Diego, many of the computers and equipment will be refurbished for use at the YMCA and gives teens the chance to work on other projects, other than just playing basketball," Harris said.

He said this is a great opportunity for people that do not have the time or money to deal with recycling their e-waste products.

"It is an easy way for people to get rid of old electronic waste while helping youth in the area," he said. "People will be there waiting to receive donations. Just drive in, you will not even have to get out of your car."
