Video: Monrovia's Thanksgiving Bear Gobbles Turkey

A Monrovia resident shot this video of a bear chowing down on a turkey carcass from her garbage.

Oakglade Drive resident Cheryl Faucett shot this video of a bear gobbling last year's Thanksgiving turkey carcass as she practiced the piano.

I don't think there is much that will keep a bear out. Where does a bear go? Anywhere he wants to.

The bear in the video is both beautiful and powerful. Thanks very much, Cheryl, for sharing the video. Alas, Chris is right, a fed bear is a dead bear, and I am glad that Cheryl is on top of stopping the bear from being able to feed its fatal addiction to easy human food. A while ago we had a bear that helped himself to the contents of my next-door neighbors' trash container. I went out to see what the noise was, not knowing it was caused by a bear. When I saw the bear, you may rest assured that I went back inside of my house promptly! My neighbors are now keeping their trash containers in their garage, inaccessible to bears who simply don't realize how dangerous human food is to them.

Whoa! This bear is not only well fed but is extremely overweight. It has a beautiful coat but I couldn't help thinking while watching that it wasn't acting "right". If it knew it was being watched, it might have felt intimidated. Unfortunately, garbage eating bears sometimes eat things that aren't good for them. It's important for the bears and for us to keep garbage secure. I'm glad you've gotten a bear-proof container.

This is not a healthy bear. He appears to be old ,overweight and unstable. I wonder if animal control has looked at this video. I have seen many bears here in town. Most are robust and active in their movement. This guy worries me, A sick bear is a dangerous bear.

Question: Are we now very close to hibernation season? Is this bear puffed up and the rest of them vociferously foraging because they are getting ready to take a long winter's nap?
