Things to Do as Holidays Hit IB

Events around town this weekend for the holidays.

There's plenty to do this holiday season around Imperial Beach. Here are a few suggestions for this weekend.

On Friday and Saturday, come by St. James Lutheran Church to see a live nativity scene from 6 to 8 p.m.

Saturday, the Chamber of Commerce presents the ninth annual Christmas Comes to IB. Take pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus and tell Santa what you want for Christmas from noon to 5 p.m.

Or if you're not filled with holiday cheer, come see the Grinch. Toys will be raffled off, and 10 lucky boys and girls from local schools will be given bikes for their achievements in school. Live entertainment, food, a train ride and even a petting zoo are planned.

The night's events will conclude with a 5 p.m. tree lighting ceremony for the 22-foot tall Monterey Pine now on display in Pier Plaza.

On Sunday, come to the  for , featuring sculpting and painting and fun for the whole family. Join them Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. and again on Dec. 18.

Outside IB, the largest holiday event this weekend may be Balboa Park December Nights, where more than 300,000 people are expected to attend this weekend for international food, live music, dancing and free attendance to all museums Friday and Saturday 5 to 10 p.m.
