The Salty Frog Open For Business

Friday night, the newly remodeled dive and sports bar, The Salty Frog, will host the locally-bred classic-rock band Triple Shot.

Owners Jason Hasty and Brian Lee have reduced prices, added a second bar area for craft beer service, put frog races on the event calendar, and plan to show UFC fights on their 10 flat-screens, no cover charged in the beginning.

"We want to be a good beachtown hangout with a young crowd," said Manager Kanai Williams.

Along with new lamps, lighting, and painted floors, they've removed a pool table and added a shuffle board, dart board, and "Buck Hunt" shooting game.

"We're really active people, so we want stuff to do, not just drink," said Hasty.

Wednesday offers free beer pong. Thursday is Karaoke night. Friday means select drinks are made of fresh IB Farmers Market ingredients, like fresh mint mojitos. Sunday is time for the "mix your own" Bloody Mary Bar.

The back bar will be stocked with a rotating selection of 3 - 4 different  bottled local craft beers every week.

Frog races are expected to start in May and will be broadcast via flat-screen TVs around the bar.

IB native Steve Welch said that the remodel wasn't needed, because the people that run and frequent the Salty Frog are quality.

"The owners are good people. Good people."

Williams said, by this Summer or Fall, they would like to get a shortbus to pick-up and drop-off people in the nearby area to ensure safe drinking.

Until then, a mural of frogs playing poker watches over the new joint. "The Ninja Turtles, we call them," said Williams.

"We're really just looking forward to being part of the community. It feels good."
