Teachers Collect Funds to Benefit Slain Mar Vista Instructor's Children

Rocio Duncan worked closely with special needs students at Mar Vista High School. Her husband Marvin Duncan allegedly killed her in a parking lot near the Imperial Beach sheriff's substation last week.

Former colleagues of Rocio Duncan at Mar Vista High School have began collecting money to benefit her children, a teacher at the school said Wednesday.

Rocio Duncan allegedly was fatally stabbed by her husband, Marvin Duncan, last Wednesday in a parking lot between City Hall and the Imperial Beach sheriff's substation.

She worked closely with special needs students as an instructional medical assistant at Mar Vista High School, according to Principal Wes Braddock.

Per a child custody agreement, Rocio Duncan was meeting her estranged husband a few blocks from the school in the parking lot around 3:30 p.m. Feb. 6 to exchange their two children, said Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan.

Her husband stabbed her multiple times, then took their two children with him to the front door of the substation and confessed to the murder, Minahan said.

Marvin Duncan pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge last Friday at the South Bay Courthouse in Chula Vista.

Authorities have been unable or unwilling to state how much of the attack the Duncans’ children witnessed.

Those interested in making a contribution to benefit the two young children and family may mail a check made out to MVH Hearts and Flowers to Mar Vista High School at 505 Elm Ave. in Imperial Beach, English teacher Stephanie Hubner said.

Checks mailed to the school may be addressed to Mar Vista High C/O Hearts and Flowers.

Checks can also be delivered after school ends at 2:45 p.m.
