Photo Gallery: Sandcastle Ball Surprises First-Time Attendees
Though it was called a ball, it was more like a house party with friends you haven't seen in a while.
Young and old, hundreds of people flocked to the parking lot at the Boys and Girls of South County, Imperial Beach Friday evening from 8 p.m. to midnight to celebrate ahead of Saturday and Sunday's .
Many called it a chance to party and catch up with longtime neighbors and friends, but some first-time attendees said they expected something different and were pleasantly surprised.
Robby Anderson came to the event with for the first time with his friends Michael Rodriguez and Claudia Fuentes.

"We expected it to be really lame but it was a lot of fun," he said.
All in their 20s, Justin Bymaster, Mark Jones, Sarah Heckethorn and her brother Paul all attended the event for the first time as well.Â

"It was a lot more than I expected and I was really impressed," Sarah said.
 The band Random Order performed rock covers and drinks were served for the 21 and up crowd which included local residents, local firefighters, Councilman Brian P. Bilbray and his father, former mayor and current Congressman Brian Bilbray.
Raffle prize for Padres tickets to game against the Rockies later this season and an autographed bat. All money raised at the event went to the Boys and Girls Club of South County, Imperial Beach.Â
