San Diego County Library System Named Best in Nation

The 2012 Gale/Library Journal Library of the Year was awarded to the San Diego County Library earlier this week.

Yesterday an informational meeting was held about how to become a foster parent. Today there was a quilting get together.

There are citizenship classes every weekend, and later this month you can do family yoga or movie night, anime comics and more.

The San Diego County Library in Imperial Beach is about much more than books.

While libraries in the city of San Diego have faced drastic cuts in their hours of operation, county libraries have flourished in recent years, opening acclaimed new branches in Ramona, Encinitas and Fallbrook.

The hard work by library staff and volunteers has been rewarded with the announcement that the San Diego County Library, with more than 40 branches including IB, has been named the 2012 Gale/Library Journal Library of the Year, topping libraries throughout the nation.
