Lost in Love: A Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt

Nicholas and Megan Miller take a scavenger hunt Sunday afternoon as part of their Valentine's Day celebration.

Megan and Nicholas Miller grew up together in a small town in Missouri. In 2009, they reconnected through Facebook, and last year tied the knot in a ceremony on the beach outside the .

“It was perfect,” Megan said.

Since she moved here last November she hasn’t had a job or much money to spend, so she decided to send her husband on a scavenger hunt around IB.

The first surprise, a giant Hershey’s Kiss, was hidden at the couple’s church.

“He sent me on some scavenger hunts when we first started dating,” she said. Back then Nicholas had to return to work at and hid Hershey’s Kisses around her apartment in Memphis.

A cryptic note will then lead them to , where he can get his favorite treat. 

Subsequent notes will send them to the beach, under the pier, to the estuary then under a doormat.

“I’ve written little clues in each card,” she said. “I’m kind of scared to hide a card at the beach though in case someone finds it and throws it away, so I have backup cards.”

Once home, there will be a blanket and cooler hiding “the most mushy card of all.”

The scavenger hunt will conclude with a picnic.
