High Surf Advisory Issued for San Diego, Orange Counties

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for San Diego and Orange counties today which will begin Thursday at 4 p.m. and end Saturday at 2 a.m.

Breakers along some shoreline may reach between eight to 12 feet.

A west-northwest swell "will build to around seven feet by this afternoon and nine feet Friday."

Here is how the advisory described the surf event's impact: 

"Dangerous rip currents. Larger waves will run well up beaches and may wash into beach parking lots. Waves will occasionally be breaking against the bottom of ocean beach pier... and over sea walls and jetties from Imperial beach southward. The entrance to Mission Bay may be extremely hazardous... especially during the afternoon low tides."
