Farmers Market Comes to Fruition, Celebrates One-Year Anniversary

The market celebrated its one-year anniversary Friday with raffle prizes and music from Coco and Lafe.

The Imperial Beach Certified Farmers Market celebrated its one-year anniversary March 18 with clay art from the Art Wheel School and Studio, raffle prizes and music from Coco and Lafe.

There are about 30 vendors at each market selling fresh produce and flowers, crepes, clothing, tamales, Middle Eastern food, handmade jewelry and more.

A home worm farm to convert organic matter into compost fertilizer is the latest addition.

The market will close at 7:30 p.m. instead of 6 p.m. through October.

Councilwoman Lorie Bragg called the market "a wonderful addition and asset to our community" after having to jump through "many hoops" with the county and city.

"The residents and people from Chula Vista, Coronado, National City all come to enjoy our Farmers Market. It's something we can truly be proud of," she told a crowd at the event.

Organizers are still looking for market helpers, website designers, writers, marketing specialists and volunteers of all kinds to help maintain and promote the Certified Farmers Market.

"This is an all-volunteer organization. If you can offer an expertise to them, please, step right up and give them a hand," Bragg said.

The nonprofit organization IB Beautiful sponsors the Certified Farmers Market.

IB Beautiful volunteers meet at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month in Room 210 of the .
