Expect Elevated Surf and Strong Rip Currents

The surf is expected to reach 3 to 6 feet with a few sets to 7 feet at favored west-facing beaches.

Large tidal swings and elevated surf will generate strong rip currents at San Diego County beaches through Tuesday morning, meteorologists said today.

"A northwest swell will build today, peak tonight and gradually decrease Tuesday," according to the National Weather Service, which issued a beach hazards statement.

The surf throughout the advisory period was expected to reach 3 to 6 feet with a few sets to 7 feet at favored west-facing beaches.
