Cardinals, Quail Spotted at Tijuana Estuary

Among unique birds reported to the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center in the past month include Burrowing Owls and Cardinals, which are typically found in the Midwest or eastern United States.

Visitors and bird enthusiasts in the Tijuana National Estuarine Research Reserve reported the following unique bird sightings to the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center this month:

Cardinals are most often found in the Midwest or eastern United States, and although it is the California state bird, quails aren't typically spotted in IB either, said Park Aide Ruth Temerer said.

"We depend on that a lot," Temerer said. "That's one of the only ways we really get to know what's out there, the people that go out on the trails to see those things because usually everybody here is busy with something."
