Repost from kbps.org

An influx of sewage-fouled waters out of Baja California prompted a beach pollution advisory Thursday along several miles of ocean coastline just north of the U.S.-Mexico border.

The warning stems from waste that entered the surf out of the Tijuana River in the area of Border Field State Park, according to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health.

Signs cautioning the public about contamination hazards will remain in place from the south end of Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach to the international line until follow-up testing deems the shoreline along the stretch safe again for recreational uses.

Hi Jon, thank you for commenting. IB locals who fish, walk dogs, and ride horse-back in this exact area would likely want to know when walking in the tide may be hazardous to their animals health and their own. Funny that such a short distance from our main beach area is unaffected - kinda like saying there was a great white sighting a couple of blocks away - but it's safe - cause it was a couple of blocks away...

Marcus has a good point. This is Imperial Beach, and thanks for posting this.

Not funny at all Marcus --- the entrance to the Sloughs, the Mouth, has always served as a natural break for the swells (which normally are southerly anyway) --- and as you may know the ocean floor topography has a few anomalies that also affect the wave formation and how the swell carries --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for the Great White --- you of all people should know it ain't the one that you see ou need to worry about ...

Thanks Jon, your years in IB are a plethora of information. A blog post about that would be great to read - would you consider writing one?
