Khari Johnson Leaves the Imperial Beach Patch as Editor

We're sorry to see you go!
We're sorry to see you go!
On his personal Facebook page, Imperial Beach Patch Editor Khari Johnson announced "I am no longer editor of Imperial Beach Patch or La Mesa-Mount Helix Patch. I know so many good people in Imperial Beach and La Mesa who care about their communities and love their neighbors. Thank you for the help and support over the years. I am proud to have worked with people who worked so hard over the last 3+ years to report the news, tell stories and wear a lot of different hats."

Johnson, known on Facebook as Restless Reporter, proves again that he is just that. As IB's first ever full-time investigative news reporter Khari dedicated far more than "full-time" to the job.

With the lack of transparency in our local government - as it is - Khari will not only be sorely missed by Patch, but also anyone who really cares about IB, with the exception of a one or two of our 'trusted' elected officials - who will be very glad to stop answering so many questions by a real reporter...

It's the next day, and this news sucks more than it did yesterday! I just listened to the Patch "Your Fired" mass conference call. Did I mention that AOL SUCKS!?!

I also listened to the "You're Fired" conference call. How sad and heartless. Like so many in the IB community, I have high regards for Khari, his work and commitment to this city and its residents. I pray new doors of opportunity will open for him quickly. I write this only to add my voice to the chorus of others here and throughout the city who deeply appreciated Khari. Thanks you Khari!

My goodness, I just read this. Khari, you don't know how much you have done for IB and I guess like everything else, we progress to degress. You will be so missed and again I am posting your poem. (and changing it a bit) I am so sorry, Buddy. Never forget us and how you helped close the generation gap, helped so much with diversity, making the youth aware of the world around them.. You will succeed, never doubt. Please stop by the Café and see your old friends. We love you!

Thanks for the link and the background info, Libi. After listening to this gutless mass firing, all I can say is Khari is much better off not being connected to these insensitive idiots. With his background and proven skills, he has a very bright future ahead of him. IB was extremely fortunate to have him for the all-too-short period of time that he was here. I will miss his first-rate reporting skills and tenacity. I wish you the best, Khari.

So what are we going to do I.B. ? Are we going to loose a now seasoned journalist who has brought so much to light and given the community real news? I say that we all chip in and hire Khari to run our own community newspaper and blog. I will donate the URL SaveIB.com if you folks will chip in to pay the bills and keep Khari covering City Hall and City News. Pull your advertising from the Patch and give it to our newspaper. Lets have him do a print version every two weeks and get the printed agenda and public notices in a real community newspaper before the public meetings without staff or flying monkey spin. Are you ready to give up having real news? It's time for the community to come together and give thanks to this fine young man who has been extremely fair and responsible in his reporting. The Eagle Times takes down a lot of money being the adjudicated newspaper and they told the new city manager straight up they would not adjust their publishing schedule to have council agendas printed and on the street before meetings. I think Khari has grounds to challenge the adjudicated status of the Eagle Times and become the adjudicated newspaper. The Union Tribune has informed the city that they really are not the adjudicated newspaper for Imperial Beach and have no reason to print official publishing in a timely manner. A poorly informed public cannot make educated decisions. That's how the incumbents and hacks stay in power....Apathetic Voters and Un-Informed or Mis-Informed voters. What's in your wallet. Let's take this to the next level and make a better website/newpaper than the Patch. SAVEib.com
