On Thursday, a groundbreaking event took place at the Lane Field site for a new dual-branded hotel coming to San Diego’s waterfront, opening in 2016. A real estate joint venture comprised of Portman Holdings, Lankford & Associates and Hensel Phelps Development are bringing the project to the area.
Speakers at the groundbreaking event included John Portman IV of Portman Holdings, Rob Lankford of Lankford & Associates, Tye Turman of Marriott International, San Diego City Council President Todd Gloria, and Port of San Diego Chairman Bob Nelson. A shovel ceremony also took place with participation from all parties involved in the project.
The mixed-use development will include a 253-room SpringHill Suites and a 147-room Residence Inn, in addition to approximately 27,000 square feet of retail space. The site is located on N. Harbor Drive which is adjacent to San Diego’s new cruise ship terminal. The development is part of the city’s North Embarcadero Visionary Plan, which will shape the future of San Diego by joining downtown and the bay. The plan will benefit the entire region, enhancing the bay's appeal as a hub of activity.
