The original deadline to register for the competition was Monday but organizers decided to extend the deadline to noon Saturday.
In its 23rd year, Kidz 'N Kastles is sponsored and organized by the Imperial Beach Optimists Club and U.S. Open Sandcastle Committee.
To register, teams can fill out the form attached here and bring it with them to the Imperial Beach Optimist Club booth in Pier Plaza.
40 teams are currently registered. A maximum 60 teams will compete.
An adult supervisor is necessary to sign-up but adults are not allowed to enter team plots.
Registration is from noon to 1 p.m. Competition begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m.
There are three categories: Creatures of the Sea, Sandcastles and Best Sculpture.
Teams can use decorative materials in their sculpture design but they must be biodegradable or natural elements of the ocean like shells, seaweed, watercolors, flour or seaweed.
Pails, buckets, hand tools and watering cans are the allowed building tools.
There is a $10 registration fee. The actual competition will take place in 15'x 15' plots next to the pier.
