Once a month, Local Heroes come to the library to tell elementary school students about their jobs and read some books.
On Wednesday, 13 U.S. Navy sailors stopped by with a 30-foot-long patrol boat for more than 100 students and parents to tour.
Afterward they read the books Rhino's Great Big Itch, Swimming with Dolphins, Don't Slam the Door and Dog Loves Books.
"It was a great experience as so many of the children at this event have parents that are serving in the military at this time," said librarian June Engel in an email.
"Cars that drove past during the boat tour were honking their horns and waving in support of our troops."
Earlier this year, the and IB lifeguards made appearances. The came in March but had to leave early to cover an emergency 911 call.
The next Local Heroes Story Time will be held June 15 with the performing an interactive puppet show called "Don't Run Around, Stay Found."
