Jan. 12, 2011 is known has been declared Michael Bixler Day in recognition to his service to the city of Imperial Beach.
Bixler was mayor from 1990 to 1998 and finished a term as the city's representative on the San Diego Unified Port District Commission Tuesday.
“We owe him a debt of gratitude for his unwavering dedication and support of Imperial Beach and the entire region of San Diego," said Mayor Jim Janney in a press release.
“Having served on the Port Board since 2002, Bixler has demonstrated success and unprecedented progress in the way of improvements to the community through many diverse Port activities and programs."
“Under Bixler’s leadership and chairmanship of the Port Art Committee, a plethora of Port projects occurred in Imperial Beach such as Pier Plaza, Palm Avenue Street End, Dempsey Center and many more."
