CNN Whistleblower Apologizes for Misleading the Public About Cannabis

Without continuing education, many people in this world would still believe the world to be flat. Most professionals require 'continuing education' to remain current with science and laws that are applicable to their respective professions.

For the past year, CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who in 2009 wrote an article for TIME magazine titled "Why I would Vote No on Pot", has engaged in continuing education about medical marijuana, and yesterday released this CNN post "Why I changed my mind on weed", where he apologizes for his role in "terribly and systematically" misleading the public about the plant.

Dr. Gupta hopes that his recent article, and a documentary called; "WEED: A Dr. Sanjay Gupta Special" which is to be aired this Sunday - August 11th at 5:00 PM PST, "will help set the record straight".

In his article the respected doctor writes;

 "I apologize because I didn't look hard enough, until now. I didn't look far enough. I didn't review papers from smaller labs in other countries doing some remarkable research, and I was too dismissive of the loud chorus of legitimate patients whose symptoms improved on cannabis.

 Instead, I lumped them with the high-visibility malingerers, just looking to get high. I mistakenly believed the Drug Enforcement Agency listed marijuana as a schedule 1 substance because of sound scientific proof. Surely, they must have quality reasoning as to why marijuana is in the category of the most dangerous drugs that have "no accepted medicinal use and a high potential for abuse."

CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent goes on to say;

 "I calculated about 6% of the current U.S. marijuana studies investigate the benefits of medical marijuana. The rest are designed to investigate harm. That imbalance paints a highly distorted picture."

Last year Imperial Beach residents were terribly and systematically misled by local politicians with a derogatory campaign against Proposition S, which would have regulated cannabis locally to allow safe and legal access to qualified medical patients only.

You don't have to carry a professional license, wear a badge, or hold public office to watch CNN's continuing education about cannabis, you merely have to be open to believing the world may not be as flat as our mayor, council (with the exception of Councilmember Bilbray), and school board would mislead you to believe.

It takes a real professional - with a lot of guts - to apologize for misleading the public. From his position of respect, Dr. Gupta's admission is like McDonalds admitting the food they serve is really only 60% "food".
