A modern day Lewis and Clark Expedition - from Imperial Beach?

"land was sold for a dollar" - Why does that sound familiar to me?

What would you do if your land was sold for a dollar?

On August 12th, the great nephew of Lewis and Clark Expedition scout George Drouillard, a little known activist named Cory Skyler Drouillard - began to walk for a little known cause - from Imperial Beach to San Francisco.

So, what's the cause for such a long walk?

It's called the Ohlone Village Walk - one man's personal effort to help build a cultural village on stolen sacred ancestral land belonging to the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe of Monterey.

According to the website, www.indiegogo.com, the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe is trying to purchase ancestral land near Monterey and build a model village where everyone can visit and experience, through story, song, and dance, the lost culture of the Ohlone people.

Drouillard's walk will take him through 85 cities and towns on the California coastline where indigenous people once called home to encourage folks to visit the website, and pledge their support.

With his journey of 875 miles, Drouillard is determined to inspire people to use their computers and cell phones and Google INDIEGOGO–OHLONE VILLAGE and support his walk that will allow the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe of California regain their sacred ancestral land that was taken from them when the Spaniards arrived on the shores of California in 1769. One hundred and thirty years later the same land was sold to a San Francisco businessman for one dollar by the United States government. The Ohlone were never given the opportunity to buy the land that was stolen from them.

Drouillard provides a video explanation of his reasons here; http://youtu.be/TJChgLRqBb4

So, Imperial Beach, who's willing to be a local activist about the People's land at 9th and Palm Avenue, which the state audit and the Grand Jury says was stolen* and sold for a dollar?

Along the way, journalists and bloggers have been posting about the Ohlone Village Walk as the activist makes his way to the Oregon border.

*DISCLAIMERAlthough the term 'stolen' was not specifically used in the recent letter from the state or Grand Jury Report titled, "Imperial Beach - A City Under Stress", the state did report that the land deal was signed after city officials had legal rights to the property!
