'...Spending our Tax Dollars on fireworks is not a wise decision.Read More...' ---------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- yes it is - it generates revenue and projects a positive environment .... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ the city of ib is generating $2 million less in revenue than it did a few years ago because it closed down all the attractions that generate revenue .... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the city receives funds to repair their roads, but the money is pillaged .... if you want your roads repaired then elect council members that will direct city employees to use taxpayer dollars for their intended use instead of selling out for a hotel room and/or a few bucks in their pockets...

Maybe the new hotel should subsidize the event? Maybe some of that BID money could be spent toRead Morehelp offset the cost. Fireworks are symbolic of freedoms that were fought for. If we don't have all those freedoms anymore....maybe fireworks are not needed? I think Imperial Beach has been repressed by not having public parades or censorship of signage. Lately we have heard a lot of stories from buisness people who cannot put what they consider to be appropriate signage in front of their business's. Maybe it's time to take another look at some of these ordinances and restore freedom of speech and freedom of expression. Why would anyone want to do business in IB if they can't put an appropriate sign in front of their business without harassment? Isn't this nothing more than censorship...or is it just the high cost of doing business in a business unfriendly city? A car dealer in Chula Vista commented on the fines he got for signs, flags and parking cars by the curb. He just expects to spend an extra $3000 a month on fines as the cost of doing business in Chula Vista. Is that what it's all about? Just the money; or is there a real reason why signage rules are so repressive? With all the proposed mixed use development on the SR-75 corridor, 13th Street and Palm...how can the city expect to attract new business with such an unfriendly attitude and rules? An then there are the exceptions to the rules...The business's that flagrantly violate these rules without being challenged by code enforcement. We all know who these business's are that have their entire window area covered. If it's the law...It's the law. If it's not the same for everyone...change the ordinance.

the sheriff's dept is corrupt and the city itself has attempted to target cyclists .... but mostRead Moreof the sheriffs on duty in ib are kids that are simply follwing orders ...... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- people have to remember that cops are their employees and need direction....have a paper and pencil or a tap recorder with you ....when a cop stops you the 1st thing you need to do is take control of the situation by asking him to state his name and badge number and the reason you have been stopped because they have to have probably cause.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- if you were stopped for something like a tail light out then direct the cop to write you a 'fix-it' ticket - and to make sure he spells his name clearly and legibly .... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- if the cops are stopping people without cause then file a complaint with the d.a. and grand jury - they can pull the logs and see a pattern of targeting cyclists...

I live on palm ave YES ON I guess when I lived on hemlock the hilos were so loud they made it soRead Moreall the kids loud music and racing don't wake me. But the pipes do save lives it lets us here the "kid" on the bike headed our way. But all said and done I took that into account before we bought the house. If you knew 75 was busy why did you move in? Don't say you didn't know. Don't rag on riders idiots or not it's a busy navy filled highway always has been, you didn't live there before they built it therefore the noise was there before you and will be there after you.

Ear plugs, I have worked night shifts and lived in some noisy places near the beach in OB and PB as Read Morewell as in the flight path,I knew it was going to be noisy and chose to deal with it and yes some times I would wear earplugs to bed :-/

1. Pipes don't save lives, they take them because I almost crash my car if my windows are open atRead Moreal l when "they" fly by. And I mean fly!! If I'm out gardening, I drop my hoe or digger...they are brain rattling loud. 2. The issue isn't fast or motorcycles really. I love a good motorcycle ride. The issue is the noise. I'm wondering if there is some filing or paperwork I could help the Sheriff's with so the pipes could at least stay within the "noisey" times. 3. I also noticed that it's mostly between 4:30-8am and 3-4 traveling North on the Strand. Hmmm, that might cause an all out war if there was a law enforcing the law that's already been made that says no noisey pipes before 6am. If they are military, that's a tricky situation. Howabout they can be loud on the 5? 4. The police motorcycles are almost silent. 5. Asking if I knew if it might be loud before we settled here isn't really relevant. "Traffic" noise is different than pipe noise. There is also a time to do this. Saturday afternoon riders that come by almost make me smile (although they are still loud). The other night a few of them were leaving Bull Tavern at 12 and woke all my kids and me up. In Coronado this wouldn't be happening. I don't want to be a Coronadian, but it would be nice to have some rules about the pipes. (Please don't throw eggs at my door)

Jumping off the pier in IB is as old as piers in IB. It was a right of passages in the 70's. I wasRead Morea feet first jumper. I watched people do Gainers and one and a halfs off the top of the life guard cat walk. That was about 12 feet higher than the outside of the rail! I think those of us that did had a lot of fun. It was summer and daylight. We would do it repeatedly and safely. I never saw a single injury. In the new world only life guards or other first responders get to enjoy the thrill of that jump. The old pier also smelled like creosote, Coppertone. They both give you cancer when you use them. But it sure smelled good....

we jumped off the pier all the time, nobody cared nobody got hurt it was just good fun, so there is Read Morea fishing pier and now your not allowed to fish in the surf, who makes up these rules?

If you google for March 31 it will show the Holiday. You are right, it hasn't caught on. Read MoreCaliforni a is probrably the only State that closes down for it, although Texas celebrates it too, but I think no like CA does. I think New Mexico celebrates it too.

Not sure if there will ever be any momentum for a National Holiday for César ChávezRead More-- - no one outside of California seems to understand what he and others did to bring humanity to the farm workers --- but those of us who were here can't "look at a grape" without thinking of what he did --- he was a true American Patriot --- he fought for others while gaining little for himself personally ...

Ed has posted the most negative and depressing comments towards me, it does not matter what I write Read Moreabout, he follows me around, it is almost like stalking. He has called me names, attacked me, degraded me. I have asked him to stop, but, he refuses. What we also need to be concerned is that the elderly, The disabled like my son who is autistic and myself, I am physically disabled, we need to be concerned about those in crisis and disasters, also. How to get them out, how to help them. I thought I was helping people here, because I have a fear for all of or lives and I do not believe people like Ed would ever be here to rescue or help any of us. All they want to do is cause problems and it is sad because we live here, we do not need people like Ed to put us down, why is he here, he acts like a troll spreading bad feelings and making people depressed, hiding behind his computer. Chicago is very far from here, their airport is a nightmare, and that is another story.

Hello Princess, Ed may do more to save you and your son that anyone. Prevention is always a betterRead Moret act. He is telling you the facts about the Tsunami evacuation route(s). They have been reduced and restricted. We all get decide on our own if that reduction is a good idea. I disagree with Ed's train idea. Dakota Cole...you and I don't even know each other. The only people who's screws are coming looseRead Morear e the people in this town that have a lot to loose if ethics in government ever comes back into vogue! Some people cannot engage in a dialogue without being mean spirited. I was stating fact about the Tsunami Evacuation routes being constricted...Of course there is no warning siren or bell either. The Grand Jury told IB to deal with this situation years ago...and they have done the exact opposite of what would be prudent in the interest of public safety. Sometimes the negativity is in the eye of the beholder...not the messenger. If I can at least get some of you to think...really think...then it's worthwhile bringing it up. What would it take to get some of you to engage in intelligent conversation on real subjects instead of all this playground bully stuff. Politicians are fair game. Private Citizens...not so much...unless they put themselves in the public spotlight or public office. There are some that will attack me because I criticized their political friends. I've been pretty accurate overall. Thanks Pop Quiz for explaining what I meant. And thanks Robin Clegg for your always intelligent comments.
