Ben Abdeljalil and his wife Leila moved to San Diego from their native Morocco to be closer to their children

The weather is the exact same here and Ben said he loves the human contact and diversity.

"The human contact in this country is some of the best in the world. A lot of people say America, America, I mean I don't care. I like humans," he said.

The Abdeljalils sell truffle, garlic and argan oils, preserves, French dijon mustard, lamb sausage, basil and rosemary butter and many other products.

They began to sell French and Moroccan food and spices after they had to close a business during the 2008 financial crisis.

Many of their products are imported but pickled vegetables and other fresh food is made here.

Mexican avocado oil, as well as Italian and German options may be added as selections in the future.

"We have all types of gourmet food that is quite different from the hamburger and the hot dog," Ben said.

The Imperial Beach Certified Farmers Market is open every Friday from 2-6 p.m. at the pier under Surfhenge.
