Pretties with Pitties Show-Off Pitbulls to Adopt

Adoptable pit-bulls received washings, nail painting, and walks with pretty women at the "Pitties Gettin' Pretty" event at IB Grooming.

IB Grooming hosted several pretty women and adoptable pit-bulls for the second "Pitties Gettin' Pretty Adoptable Dog Wash, Sunday.

The non-profit organization "Pretties with Pitties" works with the three organizations Pit-bull Rescue San Diego, Even Chance, and Its Pits, to promote rescues, organize walks, and recruit event volunteers.

After a power wash, dry-down, pedicure, and nail painting, the "Pretties," dressed in pink shirts and shoes, and took the "Pitties" for a walk around the block, "to show off" to the neighborhood.

"We're trying to show that you don't have to be a big tough guy to own a pit-bull or even to like a pit-bull," said Pretties with Pitties Co-founder, Karry Ewing.

The media glorifies the negative aspects of pitbulls, according to Ewing, who has been told by friends and family that adopting a pitbull is akin to "a death sentence."

In reality, the American Pit-bull breed was once known in the 1940's as "the nanny breed" for their docile temperament and good behavior, according to Ewing.

Pit-bull owners and twins, Pam and Deja Gipson adopted Lola, a 3-year-old pit-bull that they found in a Clairemont canyon, hungry, skinny and injured, and nursed back to health.

"Now she's the happiest dog in the world," said Pam.

When the two sisters updated Lola's microchip they found that the previous owner, who was likely responsible for the dog's many scars, had given her the name "Felony."

Despite this abusive past, the Gipson Pretties both said Lola is a loving pit-bull, "willing to forgive."

Ladies with pit-bulls and pit-bull mixed-breeds, who would like to get involved, are encouraged to "Like" the organization at facebook.com/prettieswithpitties.
